Levels of precision#
| Level | Parameter | Available on |
|---|---|---|
| Country | -cc-de | Every network |
| US state | -state-tx | Residential, United States |
| City | -city-berlin | Residential where the pool allows; ISP and datacenter at the order |
| Provider (ASN) | -asn-3320 | Residential; carrier on mobile |
How location is determined#
Providers place exits with commercial IP-geolocation databases, the same ones websites use. Precision is excellent at country level, good at city level for large cities, and weaker in rural areas or on mobile ranges, which carriers route through a few gateways. When a target disagrees with your expectation, check which database it uses.
Consistency beats precision#
Detection systems compare IP location with the browser's language, time zone and the account's history. A Berlin exit with a Spanish locale and a New York account is a louder signal than a slightly imprecise city.
How it works at ProxShift#
ProxShift targets 199 countries and territories with -cc-, US states with -state-, cities in 60 countries with -city- and providers with -asn-, all from the username of the residential gateway; the mobile gateway takes -cc- and -asn- (carrier). Per-GB prices are the same in every location.
Questions people ask#
Does geo-targeting cost more?
Not on ProxShift pool networks: residential and mobile traffic costs the same per GB in every country and city. Dedicated addresses are priced by zone because their supply cost differs by country.
