Geo-blocking

Geo-blocking is the practice of restricting or varying a website's content by the visitor's geographic location as inferred from the IP address: catalogues, prices, licences, availability, ads and search results all differ by country, and some services refuse foreign visitors outright. A proxy exit in the target country shows exactly what a local sees, which is the basis of price monitoring, ad verification, SERP tracking and localisation testing.

Forms of geo-variation#

  • Hard blocks: "not available in your country".
  • Redirects to a country site with a different catalogue.
  • Price, tax and shipping differences by country or region.
  • Search results and ads ranked and selected per market.
  • Compliance messages, age gates and cookie banners that differ by jurisdiction.

Beyond the IP#

Sites also read Accept-Language, time zone and account country. Match them to the exit so the picture is coherent, and hold a sticky session through flows that would otherwise switch region mid-way.

How it works at ProxShift#

ProxShift residential exits are available in 199 countries and territories at one per-GB rate, with city and ASN precision where listed; each country page shows the local platforms and languages worth testing from there.
