# Shared proxy

A shared proxy is an IP address used simultaneously by several customers of the same provider. It costs less than a dedicated address because the provider sells the same resource several times, but its reputation and rate limits are shaped by everyone using it. Rotating residential and mobile pools are shared by design; static shared datacenter proxies are the budget end of the market.


## Shared pools versus shared static addresses

Sharing a **pool** is normal: you hold a residential exit for one session, then it goes back to the pool. Sharing a **static** address is different: several customers hit the same targets from the same IP for months, and one bad neighbour taints it for all. "Semi-dedicated" (three to five customers per IP) is a marketing middle ground.


## When shared is fine

- Rotating pools where each request is one of thousands from a household.
- Low-sensitivity targets that do not keep per-IP history.
- Testing a provider before committing to dedicated addresses.


## How it works at ProxShift
