# ISP proxy

An ISP proxy, also called a static residential proxy, is an IP address registered to a consumer internet service provider but hosted on datacenter hardware and assigned to a single customer for a term. Websites classify it as a home connection, while the customer gets the speed and uptime of a wired uplink and an address that never changes during the rental. ISP proxies are sold per IP, usually with unlimited traffic.


## Where the addresses come from

Consumer providers lease blocks of their address space to datacenters under contract; the WHOIS and geolocation records keep the ISP's name, so reputation systems see a residential provider. That supply exists in a limited number of countries, which is why ISP proxy catalogues are shorter than residential ones and why prices differ by country.

## Questions

**Is an ISP proxy detectable as a datacenter address?**

Reputation systems that look at the registered owner see a consumer ISP; those that also look at hosting behaviour (no residential traffic patterns, static route) can classify some ranges as hosted. In practice ISP proxies pass most checks that block plain datacenter ranges.

**Can I choose the city?**

Country is always chosen at the order; city where the pool in that country allows it. For city precision in every country, residential proxies are the better tool.
