# Dedicated proxy

A dedicated proxy is an IP address assigned to a single customer for the whole term: nobody else sends traffic through it, so its reputation, rate limits and blocks depend only on that customer's own behaviour. The opposite is a shared proxy, used by several customers at once. Dedicated is the norm for ISP proxies, quality datacenter proxies and mobile devices.


## Why exclusivity matters

Reputation is attached to the address. On a shared IP, another customer's abuse lands on your requests as CAPTCHAs, blocks or blocklist entries you did nothing to earn. On a dedicated IP the history is yours: keep the address clean and it stays clean.


## Checklist when a provider says "dedicated"

- Is the address removed from the pool while you rent it, and not resold in parallel?
- Is it replaced if it becomes unreachable, and after how long?
- Is the previous tenant's history checked (blocklists, abuse reports) before it reaches you?
- What happens at the end of the term: renewal keeps the same address, or a new one is issued?
