# Carrier targeting

Carrier targeting selects the mobile network operator behind a mobile proxy exit: AT&T rather than T-Mobile, Vodafone rather than Orange. Platforms and apps sometimes behave differently per operator, and an account created on one carrier looks more consistent when it keeps appearing from it. On rotating mobile pools the carrier is chosen with the operator's AS number; on dedicated devices it is fixed when the device is provisioned.


## Why operators differ

- Each carrier announces its own address ranges, with their own reputation history.
- Carrier-grade NAT pools are per operator, so the number of subscribers behind an address varies.
- Some services gate features (payments, verification) on the carrier they detect.


## Availability

A pool has the carriers its devices use, which changes with the time of day; a dedicated device has exactly one SIM. Check availability per country before committing a workload to one operator.


## How it works at ProxShift

ProxShift mobile pages list the carriers per country (for example AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon in the United States); the rotating pool takes -asn- for the carrier and dedicated devices are ordered on a chosen operator.
