# ASN targeting

An autonomous system number (ASN) identifies a network operator on the internet: an ISP, a carrier, a hosting company. ASN targeting restricts the exit IP to addresses announced by one operator, for example Comcast (AS7922) or Deutsche Telekom (AS3320). It is used when a target treats providers differently, when an audience must be sampled by ISP, or when a mobile carrier must be chosen.

## Finding AS numbers

Public routing databases (RIPE, ARIN, bgp.tools, PeeringDB) map an ISP name to its numbers; large ISPs run several. Country pages on this site list the main consumer ASNs for the biggest markets. The number alone is enough; the country parameter keeps the pool consistent.


## ASN on mobile

On mobile networks the ASN is the carrier. Targeting it is how you make sure an exit is on Vodafone rather than on O2 when a platform or an app behaves differently per operator.
